Starting somewhere new, or getting through a hard term, takes more out of you than people admit. These are a few things that make it easier.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions
You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Ask your teachers, classmates, or someone you trust when you’re unsure. Speaking up can make learning feel a lot less overwhelming.
Meet new people
Most people in your year are in a similar situation, thrown into a new environment and don’t know anyone. Sometimes it’s the people who sat beside you in class that end up being your best friends.
Join clubs and societies
It’s the best way to meet people with similar interests and values and allows you to take a well-deserved break from studying.
Manage your time
Plan your day around what matters most. Break bigger tasks into smaller steps, prioritise what needs your attention, and give yourself time to rest too.
Be kind to yourself
It’s stressful managing school, a social life, and sometimes a job. Don’t be afraid to take a break and focus on yourself. Your mental health and wellbeing should remain a priority.
If school or university has started to feel like too much, you are allowed to say so out loud to someone. The Muslim Youth Helpline is free and confidential, open every day from 4pm to 10pm on 0808 808 2008. You can also chat with us online or email us.
